Nine Days of Prayer
In preparation for the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday 11 September 2011, Churches are encouraging congregations to reflect and pray on these events, but also the need for reconciliation and peace in the light of continuing troubles in this country and across the world.
In the Acts of the Apostles we read of the nine days between the Ascension of Christ and the Day of Pentecost, when the Apostles and Mary and those with them waited in prayer for the outpouring of the spirit. So we, in anticipation of Awareness Sunday and in that same spirit, should begin our earnest prayer for the Awareness Sunday Commemoration of 9/11. These prayers begin on Friday 2 September and are set through to Saturday 10 September. We join our prayer with people across the world. Try and spend a moment each day to pray and personally think about how we can respond to work towards a better world and for God’s presence to be restored.
