New Associate Vicar
Following recent interviews, we’re pleased to announce the appointment of Revd Hazel White to be the new Associate Vicar for Discipleship at St Mary’s and St Anne’s Churches. Hazel is currently serving as Curate in the Woodfield Benefice, Leics. Although she will be living at 15 Park Hill, Hazel will be ministering across the Benefice at both Churches and Moseley C of E School. As Vicar, Jeremy will continue to be responsible for the administration and day-to-day running of St Mary’s and St Anne’s, with Hazel focusing on the key areas of discipleship, growing leaders and evangelisation with responsibility for youth and young families. Collect
Eternal God, as Mary waited for the birth of your Son, so we wait for his coming in glory; bring us through the birth pangs of this present age to see, with her, our great salvation in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Thought for the day by Jenny Allen
I believe both Readings (Isaiah 64 1-9) and (Mark 13 24-end) appear to begin the ‘countdown’ to Christmas, when God became human and gave mankind a chance to receive forgiveness. And how badly we need God's forgiveness this forthcoming Christmas 2011. I like to read the King James version of the Bible – Isaiah's declaration vs. 1 ‘Oh that thou wouldst rend the heavens, that thou wouldst come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence’. Or when Mark describes how Christ foretells vs. 26 ‘And then they shall say see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory’. Advent provides many people, including myself, who get caught up with present buying etc, an opportunity to get a glimpse of real excitement, that something is coming that will be very special, that may even change the world. I think perhaps children especially feel this as do Christians and many of other faiths or indeed, of no faith. There will be many who may not agree, especially in these times of uncertainty about jobs etc. Also for many advent can remind people of the arrival of a day when they perhaps may feel more alone than on any other day of the year.
However, perhaps the keyword for advent, before joyous, peaceful, hopeful, and love. Jesus declared and was recorded by Mark vs. 37: ‘And what I say unto you I say unto you all, “Watch”. ’
