Thank you from Hazel
A big thank you from me for the warm welcome I’ve received in St Mary’s and St Anne’s. Thank you to all who contributed to the food (and wine!) for my larder, which was a lovely surprise to greet me on the day I moved here. Thank you too to everyone who contributed in any way to make my licensing such a wonderful evening. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you in the days and weeks to come. Hazel

Come Dine With Me, with USPG
Saturday 24 March, in your home
On Saturday 24 March, we have the opportunity to get together to invite each other for a meal, tea and cakes or cheese and wine etc. in our homes to celebrate and give what we would have spent on either the ingredients or going out to the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG). This is one of the two major Anglican mission agencies here in this country focussed on sustaining relationships between churches and supporting our partners in growing the church’s capacity for mission. Together we can make that difference and so at this stage ask you to put the date in your diary and think:
- Can I be a host for a meal at lunchtime or in the evening?
- Can I help cook?
- I can’t do the above, but would love to attend.
Please sign up to be a host or attend. Sheets will be in Church soon. Think who you could invite to dine and in doing so help all to be fed across the world with God’s love this Easter!

Collect
Almighty God, you have created the heavens and the earth and made us in your own image: teach us to discern your hand in all your works and your likeness in all your children; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit reigns supreme over all things, now and for ever.
Thought for the day by Amanda Doyle
News can be around the world in seconds with today’s communication power, good or bad, wanted or unwanted. I seem to know more about people I have never met, than about friends I see every week. In times of natural disaster help can be given to those in need much more quickly, but equally lives can be ruined through overzealous and misplaced reporting.
I wonder, were the prophets of old the paparazzi equivalent of their day? Having trekked for miles over hard and dusty terrain, and already feeling despondent with the thought of losing Elijah, the last thing Elisha wanted was the prophet’s flashing reminders at him of the events to come, at every place they stopped.
Had Jesus learned from this? Is this why he only took his most trusted disciples with him, yet still felt the need to issue a ‘gagging order’ for them not to breathe a word of his transfiguration until the whole story had unfurled? Perhaps he feared that the ultimate outcome and course of history could be altered if such knowledge were in the public domain.
